I work at a home depot and yes they do sell a ceramic paint for bath tubs.It works the same for sinks.
Paint on a warm day.And you can use a heat lamp to cure the paint.It comes in a small box with two cans.It is a two step system.ask for the paint for ceramic bathtubs.

Grow mint in it. Do not plant mint in the garden or it will take over.

if you use flexible hoses then any misalignment will not put the joint under strain. (In the hardware store there are steel-braided flexible hoses especially for this job) This is a solution for an amateur, like me!

I use Ajax…first get the sink wet and then put some Ajax on the scratches let it set for a few minutes…with a “Scotch Brite(no scratch)multi-purpose scrub sponge” scrub the whole sink and work the scratches harder & rinse.I promise it will work! it has worked for me…

Kitchens and bathrooms are the #1 selling point of any home. Always upgrade whenever possible.

Check out the faucets. Could the little strainer be plugged? I would remove strainer on the end see what your water pressure is like. You may want to replace the faucets. Do you have shut off valves in the cabinets under the kitchen/bathroom faucets? Could they be only partially turned on? Maybe they need to be replaced.

Resale would be a better option than recycle – the scrap value is negligble and you would most likely have to pay to recycle it. To sell it try a recycle paper, craigslist or ebay but I suggest you have it pick up only as shipping would be astronomical. Good Luck!

The problem with changing a sink, even if it is “standard size” is that there are many small variations from manufacturer to manufacturer. The granite may no longer match the outlines of the new sink. (corner radius may differ slightly.) If you’re set on a new sink, try to get the same manufacturer, some offer different materials in the same style sink. Now we’re getting really tricky because the ganite is seamed right at the sink. Those “arms” that reach out to the sink from either side are the weakest spot. If you’re not careful, you may break them off when trying to cut the seal between the sink and granite. I’m assuming that the sink was sealed with silicone when it was installed.
What you’re going to have to do is:
remove the faucet
remove ALL the plumbing from under that sink (clearance issues when removing)
remove the sink clips
cut the silicone seam
pull out the sink
reverse the process

Some things to think about, #1 The sink may not fit between the cabinet doors. As a granite installer for years, I’m surprized at the number of times the sink will not fit in the doors, the only way to install it was drop it in from above and then put the granite in place on top. This happens a lot. #2 possiblility, the sink may be resting on the cabinet frame, in that case, the top has to be removed before the sink can be taken out. #3 there may not be enough room to fit your hands under the sink to cut the silicone seal. This then has to be done from above. Easier, but still have to think about it.

u need to remove the metal pipes and install plastic pipes… to do this u will need a 1 1/2 fernco coupling and a master trap as well as a garbage disposal waste kit.cut the metal pipe at the wall and install the fernco. then add the trap adapter to the fernco.( it comes with the master trap) remove the metal pipe from the disposal and the other side. this is where u will install the disposal waste kit.. after that install the master trap or p trap and your done…. if this is confusing… call a plumber… good luck

This is going to be a bit tough. What you need to know is “composite granite” is granite chips carried in epoxy. This is not a honed & polished granite product. The shine came from the epoxy.

You could try polishing it with a little automobile rubbing compound.

Also, Wesley’s makes a spirit wax that I have had some luck with.

Put the shine back in your porcelain sinks and bathtubs by giving them a good scrubbing with full-strength white vinegar, followed by a rinse of clean cold water. To remove hard-water stains from your tub, pour in 3 cups white vinegar under running hot tap water. Let the tub fill up over the stains and allow it to soak for four hours. When the water drains out, you should be able to easily scrub off the stains

Ammonia

To get rid of those ugly grease and soap-scum buildups in your porcelain enamel sink or tub, scrub it with a solution of 1 tablespoon ammonia in 1 gallon (3.7 liters) hot water. Rinse thoroughly when done.

Baking Soda

To put the shine back in your stainless steel sink, sprinkle it with baking soda, then give it a rubdown — moving in the direction of the grain — with a moist cloth. To polish dull chrome trim on your appliances, pour a little baking soda onto a damp sponge and rub over the chrome. Let it dry for an hour or so, then wipe down with warm water and dry with a clean cloth.

Borax

Get rid of those stubborn stains — even rust — in your stain-less steel or porcelain sink. Make a paste of 1 cup borax and 1/4 cup lemon juice. Put some of the paste on a cloth or sponge and rub it into the stain, then rinse with running warm water. The stain should wash away with the paste.

Vinegar

Put the shine back in your porcelain sinks and bathtubs by giving them a good scrubbing with full-strength white vinegar, followed by a rinse of clean cold water. Clean the bathroom sink

Non-gel toothpaste works as well as anything else to clean the bathroom sink. The tube’s sitting right there, so just squirt some in, scrub with a sponge, and rinse it out. Bonus: The toothpaste will kill any odors emanating from the drain trap

That sink is held in place by clamps that go underneath and hold tight onto the plywood when their screws are tight. The piping also keeps in it place. You need to loosen all of that and lift the sink up.

Turn off the water and get a wrench that you can use to turn the connections counter clockwise. Get a larger wrench and turn the retaining rings on the drain piped so they can slide up and not hold on. The drain rim and the faucet can stay attached.

Now look underneath at those clamps and turn their screw heads counterclockwise so that the clamps can come off.

Pull the sink up and scrape clean the underside of the sink and the top of the plywood that it touches. Dry both carefully.

Get a tube of silicone-based caulking (kind that says it is good fro 50 years) or silicone adhesive. Put a generous covering of that stuff under where the sink rim will be resting (wearing gloves to keep your hands clean). Now lower the sink into place and put the clips on and slide the pipes into position so the sink is down on the plywood. TIghten the clamps uniformly. Then twist the pipe connections tight.

sure, J, here goes. drill a 1/8″ hole using a titanium or cobalt bit at high speed. cobalt is the best. the bit you showed me is the best but a vari-bit will also work. forget the jerk that recomended alcohol, it will ignite! use anti-freez in a spray bottle and have someone else spray while you drill. just keep steady pressure on it and you should get through in a few minutes. be warned, dogs and cats think anti-freez is yummie but it will kill them!!! good luck, dude and be carefull!

Call the kitchen company back immediately as urgent. Talk to the manager and tell them you are not happy with the installation Tell them the problem. They must correct this for you or they should get someone that knows about electrics after all you are covered by your guarantee probably 10 years.If they have messed up your electrics installing, its their problem and their responsibility to put it right You must allow them to put the problem right first if they refuse you are entitled to your money back and get someone more professional.
This is a very serious matter and could result in someone getting killed

I agree with “k h”, wooden counter tops are just asking for trouble. Besides the health concerns, they will tend to split and warp as they get wet from time to time. They will also tend to harbor mold on the underside near the sink.

If you have a “dry” island, that is the place to use a butcher block top if you really want some wood in your kitchen. Even then you will need to keep it bacteria free and oiled.

In good condition, up to £50

Even though the cast iron sink maybe in decent shape it will not last forever and eventually start to corrode and leak though that does take a good bit of time. I’ve replaced a lot of cast sinks with stainless steel sinks and 99% of my customers like it 10 times better. It looks nice and will last you virtually forever…..and if it goes with your appliances then I say YES! Do it. If this is something youre going to do yourself keep in my mind that the cast sink is very very heavy. You will need help lifting it out of the hole….good luck

Real granite does not stain or haze. If you doubt that, next time you’re at a cemetery, look at some stones. . Many so-called granite kitchen sinks are made of crushed granite or a “near” granite. The surfaces are doctored to make them look good. Over time and repeated cleaning with the wrong kind of cleaner, the surface becomes rough. . Some, though, called farmhouse sinks, are carved from a single block of granite and if the granite is a good one, it won’t haze or rings won’t form on it . With any granite or natural single stone sinks, just wash thoroughly with a non abrasive cleaner…like dish soap. Not 409!!!!. Dry it with paper towels and apply mineral oil to it. Wipe with a microfiber towel. Natural single stone “real” granite will stay black for months. . With composite granite sinks, use LIME AWAY to remove rings. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scrub pads, or steel wool. Do not use bleach or alkalis (no ammonia). . Then use dish soap, dry and apply mineral oil.

Try giving your sink a good once over in ketchup…. The cheaper the better… Once it’s shiney the way you want it… Give it a good coat of TURTLE WAX paste like you would use on a car… This will give it a coating to protect it from dirt/staining and debris…. You may have to repeat this process every couple of weeks…

“A sink is a sink is a sink …” pretty much fits the bill in this case. Your farmhouse sink should hook up just like any other sink. For what it is worth, I like your choice. I have always hated double bowl kitchen sinks. Neither bowl is ever big enough to hand wash a large soup pot or a roasting pan. I guess the whole idea was that one could fill one side of the sink with garbage that would be sent down the garbage disposer and use the other for other kitchen tasks. I just never saw the practicality of the idea, but it sure sold a lot of sinks!

As to your particular sink, is it a new sink, or have you reclaimed an old cast iron “farmhouse sink”? If it is new, you shouldn’t have any problem finding faucets to fit the predrilled holes. The predrilled holes for the faucets should be a standard pattern, but it never hurts to know the information when selecting faucets.

If you have reclaimed an old cast iron sink, make sure you measure the diameter of the holes provided for the faucets and the distance from center to center of all of the holes. Take this information with you when you make your faucet selections. Just to be on the safe side, you should also measure the diameter of the sink drain just in case you have an odd sized drain hole. Armed with this information, you will be able to select the correct fixtures.

Unless you are fairly handy when it comes to this type of work, my advice is to have a plumber install the sink. The price may seem high, but you are paying for expertise and convenience. The plumber will have all of the tools and little things on his truck to get the job done in a short period of time. Unless you can think of everything you need, you may well find yourself making several trips back to the home center or hardware store for oddball items like plumbers putty, teflon tape, emery paper, solder, flux, a faucet wrench, etc.. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that the plumber will usually do the work right the first time and will stand behind the work.

Having said all of that, there nothing unusual about installing a farmhouse type of sink.

Replacing a topmount sink is no problem and its fairly straight forward to replace it. Since there is a sink there, just reverse the removal.
If its an undermount sink they are held in place with metal anchors that are glued to the underside of the stone with a two-part epoxy that cures rapidly and has incredible tensile strength once cured. Furthermore, a bead of silicone caulk helps bond the sink to the stone.
One installation tip is to make sure the underside of the stone countertop is dust-free. Dust will cause the epoxy bond to fail. Any installer worth his salt will take a brush to remove stone dust from underneath the countertop. Dust in this location is a strong possibility because of the cut made to create the hole for your sink.

The answer depends mainly on your personal preference. Copper is a more expensive product and with that comes a little more maintenance. The finish of the copper sink also changes the type and intensity of maintenance. Shiny copper (use tarnex to remove oxidation and use a wax every 3-6 months to seal it) A stained or darker copper (use LIGHT soap and water, NO abrasives, and the sink should be virtually maintenance free. IKEA has a nice one around $300 that looks vintage (it is white porcelain). The single-pole version is around $180. I installed the single bowl in my new kitchen last winter and like it a lot — it is HUGE.

The antique ones tend to be enameled cast iron and they weigh a ton. Plus they are not the same standard sizing as modern kitchens. Normally I like recycling older components (I have remodeled and restored 5 houses between 75 and 100 years old) but those old sinks are a big pain. The IKEA gives the look without the headaches, in my opinion.

If this is a standard professionally made countertop and in good condition, there’s no reinforcments needed to hold the new cast iron sink. If it’s something some handyman or someone’s husband fabricated when the kitchen was installed, then it should probably be replaced.

There are no granite sinks.

You can get many types of copper sinks. Polished, weathered, oil rubbed are common examples. The “old black brushed over look” sounds like weathered copper or oil rubbed copper. A weathered copper finish will change color over time and is thus often called a living finish. This changing is usually desired as a nice design element. You should look hard at the contrast between copper and stainless steel appliances -place color chips close to each other to make sure you have the desired color combination. There are copper sinks in many price points. You can also get copper kitchen faucets. You can also get porcelain or stainless steel farmers sinks. Some people call these apron kitchen sinks, farmhouse sinks or apron front sinks.

farm sinks offer many advantages:
1) the front is lower so you can get easier access
2) they can be deeper as they sit on top a a cabinet, instead of resting inside one.
3) interesting design element
4) you can place them on an open sink stand
5) they work great in a ranch style design

What’s an apron sink? Any way, go get a stud finder and some screws at the hardware store. That should do the trick.

There is no regulation under BS7671 for the positioning of sockets near sinks.
The NICEIC advice is to space them at least 300mm ( 12 inches ) away from the sink or drainer.
If this is not possible then a splashproof type must be used.

I always clean our cast iron pans with plain old dish washing liquid and an S.O.S. pad. It works great on cast iron pans, so I’m sure it will work great on a cast iron sink. Rinse well after cleaning.

Muriatic acid will take it off. Try vinegar first. Grout is largely gypsum which is almost entirely calcium carbonate, a base or alkaline. Acid will dissolve it. Granite is a hard, igneous rock. I’m pretty sure acid won’t hurt it. Vinegar is a weak acetic acid. Muriatic acid (hardware store) is hydrochloric acid and is quite a bit stronger.

You can cut out the section that is broken with a copper tubing cutter. It looks like a C-clamp but has a small cutting wheel on one end. They even come in small models to fit into tight areas. Just turn the water off and open the faucets to let them drain as much as possible. Put the cutter around the pipe and tighten it up a little. Spin it around the pipe, give it another turn to tighten it, and spin it around again. The pipe will eventually pop apart and leave you a nice clean cut to attach the repair to. The pipe and fittings will need to be dried, then sanded to remove dirt, etc., fluxed, assembled, then heated with a torch and soldered. Two connecters and a very small length of of same sized pipe is all the parts you’d need. If there is a wall close to the area that needs to be soldered, find a piece of metal to stick between the wall and the joints. It’ll protect the wall from catching fire.

Today Im going to provide you with information on buying a kitchen sink.
The following guide will answer many commonly asked sink questions, plus a few more you may not have thought of.

Sink Type

There are three main types of sink; Inset, Under Mount and Ceramic. The style is a completely personal choice

•Inset – these sinks are the conventional type of sink, fixed into place with the rim of the sink overlapping the worktop. They come in the widest variety of styles and types. You can get everything from a 1 bowl to a three bowl sink, including different drainer options.
•Under Mount – these sinks are designed to be fitted to granite and solid wood worktops. They are fixed to the underneath of the worktop so there is a smooth finish. These materials are used because they are or can be made waterproof. They cant be used with standard formica work surfaces.
•Ceramic – these sinks are the traditional white ceramic sinks, the most recognisable type is the Belfast sink with sluice style overflow. These days Ceramic sinks come in inset, undermount and the more traditional Belfast Styles. Ceramic inset sinks fit into the worktop like a traditional stainless steel inset sink, and have a strainer style waste. Ceramic Undermount sinks fit under the worktop and provide an alternative to traditional undermount stainless steel sinks. They look especially stunning set in a black granite worktop. Belfast Sinks are the traditional ceramic sink but now come with strainer style wastes, these require support brackets or a frame to mount them on. They are usually found in traditional Farmhouse style kitchens.
Drainers
Most inset sinks come with a drainer. Drainers are classified/handed according to three types.
•Universal – this sink comes in one version and can be fitted with the drainer on either side of the bowl or bowls. Two holes are cut in the sink top, one front and one back for the tap to be fitted through. The unused hole at the front is sealed with an easy to fit tap hole stopper.
•Left Hand Drainer or Right Hand Bowl – so the taphole is at the rear of the sink the drainer will be on the left of the sink and the largest or main bowl will be on the right.
•Right Hand Drainer or Left Hand Bowl – so the taphole is at the rear of the sink the drainer will be on the right of the sink and the largest or main bowl will be on the left.

Sink Material
The most common material for sinks is Stainless Steel and gives you the greatest choice of designs. The majority of Stainless Steel sinks on Simply Kitchen Sinks are manufactured from 18/10 grade stainless steel and come in a variety of finishes – polished, silk, brushed and linen. Many people choose on the sink design shape rather than the finish. Whichever sink you choose please remember over time a patina will build up of micro scratches from every day use which adds to the character of the sink.
Granite sinks are becoming more popular. These are known as Fragranite (Franke), Rok (Astracast) and are composed mainly of granite formed into sink shapes. Granite sinks are heat resistant up to 280ºC, as well as being scratch, stain and chemical resistant. These sinks are hygienic and easy to clean, and the colour goes right through.
Ceramic sinks are as their name suggests ceramic. For more information please see the ceramic description in the sink type section above.
Plumbing Kits
When your sink arrives, the outlets need to be connected together in one waste pipe for the water to flow away. Manufacturers provide plumbing kits for this purpose. With most Astracast sinks these are included in the price of the sink. Plumbing kits are extras on Franke sinks except in some Designer Packs. Here is a quick guide to choose the plumbing kit for your sink.
•Lira 1 – for sinks with one outlet (single bowl sinks)
•Siphon or Lira 2 – for sinks with two outlets (double bowl sinks)
•Lira 3 – for sinks with three outlets (triple bowl sinks)
Accessories
Each manufacturer offers a range of different matching accessories i.e. food preparation boards, colanders and drainer baskets for their sinks. These accessories are not generic to every sink and can be specific to certain sinks or ranges. Please make sure when choosing an accessory, it is correct for your sink.
Fitting
When purchasing a sink please make sure all the dimensions are correct, the type of sink is suitable for your worktops and kitchen units etc, this will save you time and the cost of correcting errors. Is he correct and can I not install my cast iron sink without causing damage in the long run?

the counter top does need to be suported – however 3/4 plywood would be good – make sure you seal all edges of the sink to prevent water damage in the future.

Calcium, Lime & Rust are the most common staining minerals…but they DO come off. You cannot remove them with power or abrasion…..you have to break them down in a sense. Good Luck!

And Bleach can stain, or, temorarily mar, your tub. As can Ammonia…..skip those. Find a mineral remover.

There’s alot of information out there on what goes and what doesn’t. Although copper or stainless would both make a statement, if you’re concerned about whether it blendd with a traditional setting, the white sink would definietly be more in keeping with the period. Personally, I think it would look gorgeous no matter what the cabinet finish is. I had one of these in Missouri years ago and loved it.

Its an Americast 33 x 22 cast iron sink. Self-rimming and undermount. by the way, does anyone know what self rimming is too?

I’m a little confused ….Americast is not cast Iron it’s a porcelain on composite finish and about 1/2 the weight of a cast iron sink making it about 50 +/- pounds. American Standard makes Americast as one of it’s product lines.

I would strongly recommend self rimming for cleaning purposes.

These are great sinks I had one and got 1 chip in it and they sent a repair paint. I love the size the only issue is the sink racks were expensive due to the custom shape. Get the Cutting board for it it was fantastic.

I currently have a real cast iron sink in this house that DID need support.

As far as installation it requires nothing special.
